Moving Stickers

These huge stickers on my nice shiny front panel are super ugly. Why did they stick them there anyway? What's the point of chroming it if the're going to do this?

So I have one giant maufacturers sticker on the right and two ETL stickers on the left (French and English). I'm thinking of moving them under the drip tray (where they should be, like on my Silvia).

What's the best way to remove these stickers so they can be reapplied? Heat gun?

There's another thread somewhere that discusses this at length. Folks have noted removing decals and/or stickers like these from other surfaces with either a heat gun or WD40. However, no one on this forum has actually claimed to have tried any of these techniques on their S1's.

This is a fairly new "design" change. On the older ones they are hidden on the inner chassis side panels by the drip tray. It is probably driven by commericial considerations but it really sucks for home users.

I first did a search on "sticker" and all I found the tri-flow comment you talked about, but that was about removing the painted-on S1.

I'm not interesting in permanently removing the stickers, I just want to move them out of sight, so any kind of solvent is out.

I think I'll try removing the panel, then slowly warm it with heat gun while using a thin double edge razor blade. I saw a car guy do this once on a sticker on a BMW.

I would be very concerned about scratching the panel with a razor blade. Why do you care about preserving the stickers to move them? I would just consider removing them and having a clean panel (I say this but should make it clear that I have a machine that is 1.5 years old and has the stickers in places that are not visible).

I agree. You must keep the razor perfectly straight to avoid scrathes.

I'm justing think of keeping the stickers for resale value.....for when I get the VIII of course.

you might ask Chris or your dealer if you can buy replacement stickers that you could put in some acceptable location.

I removed the decal from the front cover of my S1 using a heat gun. The electrical data decal was underneath in the drip tray area as late as last Decembers shipment. I seriously doubt you will be able to remove AND reinstall the decal as they normally stretch out of shape when you peel them off. Any glue left behind can be easily removed with citrus cleaner or 3m Adhesive Remover.
