How to Drain/Prepare for Shipping an S1 ?

I've sold my Viv II, and will do without for couple of months till I relocate.

Anyway, I have Chris's double shipping box, so shipping to new owner ought to go well. To what degree do I drain the S1, how, and what other advice for having a successful shipping?

The steam boiler has a threaded brass drain plug that sticks through the bottom of the chassis. You need to remove that and let the steam boiler drain.

The similar plug on the group boiler is on top so you'll need to remove that and stick a tube in to siphon it out.

This is what Chris Coffees does after they test the machines and before they ship. However, they also remove the solenoid valve and blow the water out wit compressed air. I just ended up sticking an old towel under the machine before I put it in the box to absorb anything I missed.

Maybe but you would run the risk of overheating the heating element unless you pulled those wires also after the boiler came up to pressure.

Then I wouldn't worry about the boilers as nothing "should" leak out if the reservoir & drip tray are empty and you keep it upright. Set it on a blanket in the trunk of your car & go for it.

I did just that to get my Mini from my place just north of Albany down to Chris' and back for service. Worked out just fine. Just be sure the drip tray and water tank are empty. :)
