Sell or Store My Viv II?

Post by Martin »

Hello ----been awhile since I've posted here, but this is the best place to help me think over my dilemma. I'm selling my house (So California), and in less than 3 months I'll be moving to Manhattan. 3 months "temporary housing," then up to a year rental (or until housing market settles) and purchase an apartment. That's a lot of storage and/or moves to mess with other people's plumbing. OTOH, the machine performs perfectly (better, because it stopped its dribble leak), and there's no other machine I'm persuaded I'd rather have. Your thoughts appreciated.

I wouldn't even consider selling mine! If you drained the machine thoroughly & let it dry out storage wouldn't be an issue as long as you could control humidity, ect. On the other hand tapping into the water line in a rental wouldn't be that hard & it would certainly be nice to use the machine while you wait out the current market.

After my Gaggia died I lived with a stove top moka pot for almost a year and kicked myself for waiting so long to buy my Vivaldi. If you think that you will have adequate space in the apartment I would try to take the Vivaldi along. In the worst case you could use a flowjet and a jug to run it without tapping into the apartment water directly.
Good luck,

Have to agree with MDL. Taking it along is the best option. My feeling is that, once you get to the Vivaldi level, it's going to be hard to step down, maybe even to a Manhattan neighborhood cafe.

Round 2 for advice:
I just returned from a week + in NYC. Looked at over 20 apartments and didn't see a single opportunity to draw a water feed through a counter top to my Viv II. (I left the minor matters like rent, square feet, number of rooms to my wife) :-? ) I'm a pretty resourceful plumber, but it's drill or nothing. Aesthetics and space eliminate Flowjet for the several apartments that would work for us.

So there's a better than even chance that I'd move the machine, and then be without espresso, or move, sell, and purchase a reservoir machine. Here's my questions:

1. It's an almost 2 year old Viv II. Excellent condition. Never a problem. What do I sell it for?

2. Where would you post it? I'm inclined toward CoffeeGeek because of its volume. Other options? I'd rather take a bit less than hassle auctions like Ebay.

Thanks

I doubt you would have any problem selling it on CoffeeGeek or Home Barista as long as you make the price appealing compared to the current list $$.
