I have always used Cafiza but was running low and making a purchase of several other items from a vendor that only had Joe Glo. So I decided to give Joe a go.
I have not been wild about Joe Glo and wondered if any of you have also used both and have an opinion to share.
For backflushing it seems like it does not dissolve as well as Cafiza. With Cafiza the first backflush or two would be really brown coming out the 3-way, giving me the feedback that it was working well. I don't see that at all when I use Joe Glo.
On the other hand when I soak PFs, screens, etc. with the Joe Glo for a while they seem to clean up at least as well as Cafiza.

Funny you posted this, Chaz. I just tried JoeGlow for the first time yesterday. I actually noticed a lot of 'gunk' coming out of the 3-way when I backflushed; but that is, of course, subjective at best.
When I was reading the label I noticed that it advised not to soak overnight as it "works really fast." I soaked for about 6 hours or so and it wasn't kidding on that front, either. Granted, this was just my first use - but I was pretty impressed thus far. I'll update this if/when my opinion changes with a little more use under my belt.

Very interesting post indeed! :P
Please update if you guys notice anything else.
I've been using the JoGlo wipes for wiping the Hottop and Behmor viewing glass. It immediately gets rid of the coffee build up so you can actually see through the glass
something I should be doing more often but I rarely ever look at coffee while roasting.

No idea what the wipes cost but you might want to consider usingNiko wrote:

Rutland Hearth & Grill Glass Cleaner to remove the burnt residue. An 8 oz bottle costs $3.50-$4.00 & lasts for years. I clean the glass panes in our 2 wood stoves with it & it works great. Can be found at Wallyworld, Ace Hardware or any woodstove shop.
Nobody...anymore.chas wrote:I haven't see the JoeGlo wipes. They sound quite useful. Who carries them?

I had a jar of the stuff once, lasted me about a year almost and when it ran out - I went online to buy more from the manufacturer. The checkout went OK and then I got an email saying that they no longer make it since the cost went up too high for them. So until they find another lab to make it, you won't find it.
They were nice enough to hand mix a batch for me after I wrote to them saying how much I like the stuff :P
Like I said earlier, I really love how it works on cleaning the glass roaster parts and it's food safe with no odd smells or weird stuff in it.
Re: Cafiza vs Joe Glo
Cafiza, Joe Glo or Urnex
they all do a good job, active ingredients are almost the same in all (same chemicals product family)
Joe Glo doesn't have a foaming agent, so it doesn't "look" as good as the other but actually I like it for that.
Anyway my 2c : buy the cheaper one in your area
