My VII is whistling

When I compete a shot, my machine will sometimes start whistling. Can someone explain why and how I can fix?

Pull off the top & front cover & see if you can determine where its coming from.

What's the story on the brass shavings mentioned in that thread? Did they accumulate on top of the screens or clog things up further back? Was this just an issue on the early machines?

No, not an issue with just older machines - it's still happening once in a while.
I think Chris and his gang have a handle on it now by blowing out certain parts with compressed air.
Brass shavings were found in various valves and other parts. I found a small one in the screen of my hot water spigot.
