Does the VII have the CSA or URL electrical rating for use in Canada?

commercial setting
Hi Niko
Yes I am using it in a commercial setting. Not a busy commercial setting mind you but commercial none the less. When people are giving you money for coffee coming out of the machine it has to have the certification. I believe Chris from Chris Coffee is presently working on getting the little white sticker but I don't know how long it will be. I initially bought a La Valentina Levetta for the store but got a bit too attached to it at the house while getting used to the transition from a Gaggia Classic to an HX. It isn't plumbed in, is a bit noisy, and ... is an HX. All reasons why I was excited about this Spaz II.
Going to call Chris tomorrow and see if there is a deadline. I may be starting the search all over again............
Thanks for the reply

All the red tape is kind of ridiculous, small companies have to pay big bucks for these pesky certifications just to make sure it isn't going to burn down a building or something like that. In the Spaz's case, taller feet would be in order over a stupid UL certification, as a matter of fact, the CE certification is even more strict I heard. But everyone has to have their cut in the deal since it wasn't tested in N. America and the European badge isn't good enough for our continent, after all we know everything....right?
Good luck on your quest, the Spaz is a great little powerhouse for a small commercial setting.
I'm near that kind of output sometimes with one of my machines, as many as 60-85 drinks get pumped out of mine sometimes in a day.

spec update
Just heard from Chris that the next batch of Spaz II's will have the necessary certifications on them. Be here end of May. I can wait.....
Those "UL" stickers sure are easy to peal off...
So what does this mean? The new batches of VII's that are expected by the end of May should have the "UL" approval, what about the rest in captivity out there? They're the same exact machines, are they going to offer the approval for those small businesses already using an S1?

My guess is that, if you use a non-UL (or equivalent for your country) machine commercially, then your business insurance policy will not cover your losses for, say, a fire caused by the machine. And you might incur fines or the requirement to replace the equipment as a result of an inspection.
Between the lowish odds of a fire and the variable chance of an aggressive inspection, you might be tempted to go for it.

I think in my case the aggressive search would be more of a worry.. short term anyway. When one starts selling any kind of a product you are cutting into someone elses business. From a small populated center from which I reside (40,000 population) there are "always" people who are very quick to call up the local inspector and tell him of a certain person who is not abiding by the same rules of the game as they are.
I can see from both sides as the business which I am involved in sees many mom and pop operations starting up and cutting lots of corners ,which we do not, because of legalities. From this view I would say that if you want to play ball then follow the rules so it is an even playing field for all.
Plus... my better half can't sleep at night if all our legal T's are't crossed. What a waste of time always looking around the corner for that inspector with his leather briefcase and black government suit!!!!!!!!!!!
My 2 cents for Friday, April 20th. Have a good week-end all.
ps: anyone know where to buy UL stickers???????????

That's what it's all about!
Those UL stickers...
I'm assuming that once the S1 passes this certification, anyone with a past or present Viv should be able to affix this sticker on it. I don't see why not since the machine hasn't changed internally in about a 2 yrs almost (and these changes are hardly electrical).

(Ahem)...No, you'd have to have them printed for you...jonniewishbone wrote:ps: anyone know where to buy UL stickers???????????
So I guess the existing owners can get a sticker also? Not that I need it but I know some restaurants and small cafes use the Vivaldi. At least they should offer the sticker to existing VII owners if they want to be particular about the machine which is actually getting the certification. I'd like that sticker on one of my S1's at least, it makes it more attractive on the used market in case I decide to sell one down the road to a small business, you never know...
Mmmmm. That could get tricky. If they just sent out sticker to everyone who bought a S1 how could they be sure that they stuck the sticker on that appliance and not some other product. Also some people do modifications on their machines that may not be cool with the powers that give these certs... The list goes on. I wonder tho if you can have access to a certification if you have a machine that is identical to the future certified SII?? One way to find out......
I don't see that there would be any difference on all the VII's shipped since last November as to the ones being shipped with that certification in the future. In fact, since it takes about 2 years for that certificate, it indicates that UL has been testing the old S1 this whole time.
Also, I don't see what people can possibly do to change these machines, it's not like you can add a PID controller on it or change anything else. The only thing I see that people have done that might not jive with UL is the insulation they've done to their boilers. But you're correct in thinking what people do to these things sometimes, some people have rigged their own timers and I know this wouldn't fly with UL unless the manufacturer did it.
About those stickers, Spaziale would have to replace an entire sticker to include the new "UL" certification along with the "CE", machine model name and serial number all over again. For a nominal fee I think most people would go for this if they need that certification for an existing machine.

I was thinking the same thing...
Some 3rd party would have to do it or La Spaziale would have to figure out a way to offer these new certification stickers by asking for the old one back, they would only release the new re-serialed and re-certified stickers when the old one is returned and on hand. That's one of the ways I see it, Spaziale would have to do this and not drive Chris crazy with something like this or maybe they have a plan for it already, they pass out new owner manuals with the certification in it with contact numbers and names to prove it.

I know. Sometimes I would like to take my chances and get it this weekend. I don't think that people with machines before the certifications will be able to get them. There will be a price increase as well due to this commercial certification from what I hear. The week-end is upon us now too. Decisions must be made!!
I think the machines are going up in price for other reasons, maybe this is just another excuse but...
the Euro is KILLING the American Dollar among other things, I know it's not the only currency that's hurting.
Look at the price jumps on various European goodies, grinders just took another price hike as well as some espresso machines.
Pretty soon we'll be looking at VII's over 2K in the States.
Buy all you can, while you can is the advice I have for others. I know you need to run a business and you need certain certifications so I won't try and sway you into something sooner.

I think you hit the "main" nail on the head regarding price increase when you bring up the EURO. That is most definitely the culprit. I will buy what I can and wait out the storm. Chis Coffee did not hit me with the price increase on the new machine as I already had an order in (prior to asking any questions regarding certifications) which is very honourable. They scored a point with me there.
