Tom,
You can order from .5 micron - 10 micron one from this site:
http://www.waterfilters.net/SearchByBra ... ilters.htm
Chris has the 10 micron filter for $19.95, you can get the same one for $9.99 here. I decided to purchase the .5 micron filter (CBC-10) @ $13.99 and is working great. Excellent price as well.

Here's the 5 micron one I buy:

It's only $6.75.
These guys also carry the softener cartridges but they only come in 6 packs for $124.

The length of time the cartridge will last depends greatly on the hardness of your water. The softner works by exchanging sodium ions for calcium (primarily) ions in the water. Calcium is the cause of scale while sodium will not create scale. The more calcium or magnesium in your water, the faster the Na ions will discharge from the cartridge. Twice the Calcium, half the life span. I would strongly encourage you to read the articles about recharging your cartridge in this forum. The resin in my cartridge has shown no signs of degrading after 3 years of use. I paid about $5 for a 50 pound bag of softening salt that I suspect will last a life time. I simply recharge every six months.TomP10 wrote:First, you guys are great. Thanks for the great sites.chas wrote:These guys also carry the softener cartridges but they only come in 6 packs for $124.
Second, a follow-up question. Any sense whether the softener cartridges degrade over time? That is, if I bought 6 softener replacement cartridges, I would have about 3 years worth. Is that too long to hold these cartridges?
