S1 Recycle time

Post by callmeike »

Hi!
So excited to find this list!

I live in Cambridge, MA, and have been a proud owner of an S1 for nearly half a year now. I purchased it from Casey Cobb at MoreCoffee. He has been unbelieveably helpful during the processes of getting the machine wired, plumbed and debugged.

I have a question: what do you folks see for recycle time, to get the group head back up to temperature, after pulling a shot. I have mine running slightly hot (100C). After a shot, both the amber and the top green lights go out (indicating a temperature drop of ~10 degrees!), and it takes >30 seconds for the amber light to relight.

Is this how your machines work as well? Does this really mean that the water temperature varies by that full 10 degrees during the process of pulling a shot? Is that ok?

... actually, as I sit here, typing, with a thoroughly delicious shot, I can say with absolute certainty that, if this temperature thing is a problem, it isn't a very big problem :)

100c is very hot, not slightly hot...
Your machine is very normal if it's only taking 30 sec or so to recover. A good average is about 30-40 sec, I've seen my machine (and others) recover in 50 sec also for double shots. It really depends on the water/filtration source, i.e., how cold the incoming water is, etc..

You'll know something has gone awry when your shot quality starts degrading.
Nice to have you on the forums!
Take care,
Niko
