Standby light flashing but not turning on

I've just tired to reinstall after a number of years in hibernation. It had been plugged in the whole time but never used. I've got the standby light flashing but pushing on/off for any 3 / 5 / 10 seconds isn't doing anything. It feels like the button isn't working but is there anything I can check?

If you search this forum for posts by folks that have automated turning the machine on and off, you will find documented the two contacts/wires on that back side of the front panel that need to be shorted together briefly in order to turn the machine on and off. Short these manually and see if the machine turns on. If so, then it is definitely the switch. Assuming that's the case, there are other posts you can search for from folks that have had switch issues they were able to fix with some disassembly and switch cleaning.
