I realize that there is a several years old thread on this grinder, I was just hoping for an update as I have replaced my Silvia with a Mini, and need to replace my Rocky. Any new good/bad thoughts on this grinder? Better matches for the mini in a similar price range? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Congratulations for the Mini. It's a wise choice.
When I bought mine, I thought about the K3. But at that time the K3 had a bad reputation for a large retention. So I chose the Vario. It was not a bad choice, but surely not the better. One year later I bought a K8. But it's maybe extreme. A Mazzer SJ could have been perfect.
So, do yourself (and your Mini) a favor, and choose something that you would want to keep for a looooong time.
