Hi. I was examining the stainless front and was looking at the almost mirror finish. Is that chrome plate on mild steel? Reason i as is, a magnet sticks to the steel very well so its either low grade stainless or chrome plate mild steel. If its stainless i will probably brush it, not a fan of the shine and you see all small scratches. If its chrome plate i wont touch it.
Actually it is 400 series (martensitic) Stainless. It is magnetic and is usually harder. It certainly is not low grade. 400 series is usually selected for parts that need machining because of it is easier to do.
I have 3 commercial machines in the garage being refurbished and they all have martensitic (magnetic) stainless body parts. The hardness is a good property for polished parts and it is fairly resistant to scratches.
