15 to 20

Post by ishcoco »

I am going to take the leap forward and convert my 15 amp machine to 20 amp. Anyone have specific instructions as to how to do this? My machine does not appear to have the 15/20 switch, so I am guessing I need to pull out a jumper somewhere? I under stand the plug end of things, I just need some input in re: to the innards. Thanks in advance.

From what I've seen and been told, there are two designs. The original - like mine - just has a flimsy. gray L shaped plastic cover that goes across the top and down the front of the Control board but is open at both ends. The 15A models of these have a jumper with a long plastic piece sticking up. You can just reach in with needle nosed pliers, without removing the PC board and pull it out.

The newer models have a board which is enclosed in a black plastic case which supposedly have a switch on the case. No one with this model has ever posted pics here, so I'm not sure where on the box the switch is mounted or how obvious it is.

BTW: So long as you know the outlet you will plug into has a 20A breaker I do not believe there is really a need to replace the cord/plug with a 20A plug.

I just took the covers off mine to check the steam boiler connections (a little loose, looks like this might be a common problem on new machines), here's a shot of the 15/20 switch.

thanks - I wish mine had the switch. I am still waiting from someone at Chris' to call me back re: which jumper to pull out for a 15 to 20 conversion.

You could just put it into ecconomy mode via the front panel.

I want it to run in 20, not 15. I've got a new, dedicated 20 amp circuit just begging for some load. 8)
