Newer S1 internals

Post by ishcoco »

Can someone with a newer S1 (switch for 15/20 AMP) post a picture of the inside? I am trying to determine if mine has a switch or not, and am not sure what to look for. Thanks!

I'm too afraid to pull mine apart!

Chris told me that it's basically just a toggle switch on top of the black box (lower right side of the machine, towards the back (when facing it as to use it)).

To the best of my knowledge, they have all had the switch including the first generation. Chas has probably had his apart more than anyone and may well have a picture. If no one complies, I will pull mine apart this weekend.

Chas did not have a picture - I went to him first. Mine does not look like Chas' on the inside, in that there is a big black bar covering most of the circuit board - that said, I do not see a switch. I'd post pics of mine if I could figure out how to do so. :?

I asked Chris and he said that they've all had this switch. The older models had a "computer style" jumper you had to change. The newer once had the toggle switch right on top of the "black box."

I don't know if this helps.

All of them have some sort of a switch. The only difference is why type of switch they had.

Yes, when I purchased mine a jumper was used rather than a switch. The jumper is out for 20A mode so mine didn't even have the jumper there. One of the initial growing pains I went through as an earlier user was purchasing an S1 with a programming flaw in the board. This caused the LED temperature lamps - when in temp programming mode - to come on backwards from the way they are suposed to work.

Chris got LaSpaz to fix that and sent all the owners a new board. I didn't notice until I had completely finished, put everything back together, and turned the unit on that this board had the jumper installed. Fortunately, rather than using a standard type of jumper they used one with 2" long pull tab that stuck up above the board. It was easy to see, grab, and pull off with just the back cover removed. Now if I ever wanted to put it back, and fortunately I never will, I'd have to disassemble half the unit and pull the PC board out so I could get to it.

They changed the newer model to encase the entire board in a black plastic cover and there is supposed to be a small toggle swithc mounted through the top cover.
