Soap Hole Question

I have recently installed my S1, and have run the plumbing through the soap hole thanks to the valuable tips from John and others on Coffeegeek.

Anyhow, I had a vacant opening with a cap which was held in place by a screw and washer under the sink. I have drilled a hole just big enough for the stainless flex tube and nut from the S1, but obviously there is still a gap between the flex tube and the cap since the nut is much bigger than the actual stainless flex tube. What have others done to seal this up and prevent any water from going down as well as to make it look decent?

There is no perfect solution that I have been able to find. I used a fitting that was large enough for both to pass through and is raised above the sink level. I have had no problems with water going down the hole as it is a raised area. Sure a drop might splash through but it won't cause any harm. I can take a photo and email if it will help you.

A photo would be appreciated. I have one of the old Grohe faucets with the single handle, so what happens is water runs off your hands and over the soap hole when you go to turn off the water or make temp. adjustments. It was held in with a screw and washer below so prior to me drilling a hole in the cover, water never got below the sink.

Of course in the meantime, I have saran-wrap over the hose/hole in that spot until I can implement a better solution.

One thing you could try is a stainless steel bulkhead fitting. However, this would mean abandoning the supplied "supply hose" in favour of two shorter supply hoses. Probably not worth the hassel, depends on how estetic you want to get.

For examples of bulkhead fittings, see www.mcmaster.com. Another place that had elbow bulkhead sittings (probably what you want), in stainless steel, was www.fittingsandadapters.com. If you go this route, you'll probably want to read my other post on plumbing, and not using the supplied "supply hose".
