Flow Through Group Stops

Post by JoeZone »

Hi All,

I am the very happy new owner of a well-tended used S1 that I successfully set up last night through the wisdom of Chris and the ease of his John Guest fittings.

All functions of the machine seem to work fine, except that when I go to pull a shot, the amount of coffee coming through the group is about half the dose amount - it seems to shut off for some reason.

If I run a shot through with no coffee, the dose is correct, and the problem occurs with any amount of grounds, so I don't this is a grinder or dosing problem related to the amount of coffee in the basket.

I am guessing this is some kind of sensor problem? How hard is it to fix?

Thanks for any help you can offer - its great to have this forum as a resource.

- Have you set the dose whilst pulling a shot with coffee?

Dosing set without coffee in the PF will result in a lesser dose of water than with coffee due to absorption

Thanks

Thanks, Ron - that was the problem. I am grateful for the quick response (and well caffeinated too)!

usually, people set one of the coffee buttons for flushes and the other for brewing. I have the 'two cups' button set to deliver two ounces of water - I use it for flushes and some portafilter-wiggle group cleaning. The 'one cup' button is set for long delivery of water (perhaps over 10 seconds, I'd have to check to be precise here). Everytime you brew a cup all the things are (at least a little) different (dose, grind, air humidity, distribution) so the volume of coffee and time of perfect brewing will change, that's why it's better to stop brewing manually. :)
