Hi All,
I have been thoroughly enjoying my S1 for a couple years and love the website.
A problem I have not been able to solve is that the hot water that comes from the steam boiler seems to have a unpleasant taste and smell. I wonder if it has something to do with my boiler or filtration system.
I have two cylinder filtration system bought from Chris Coffee. I have replaced the filters about once a year. My local water tends to be fairly soft. With the start of the new year I have now today replaced them once again but the hot water still seems to have this odd taste/oder. Got any suggestions? When I installed the new water softener and fine filters, I pumped 3-4 gallons of water through to get all the loose matter out before hooking back up to my S1.
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks!
Bill

That's not all that unusual if you are mostly using it for steam and rarely using it for hot water. In this case, you keep pulling distilled water aka steam out and leaving minerals and various dissolved solids behind to build up.
Unless you use the hot water tap regularly I'd recommend once or twice a week to put a 4C measuring cup or bowl under the hot water outlet and let it run down to a trickle to get fresh water in the boiler.

I concur.
My old S1 doesn't get as much business these days so the steam boiler occasionally picks up some nasties you wouldn't want in your cup. I'll have to remember to post a picture the next time I see some amoebas floating around.
Thanks for reminding me about the filters, I need to order a set
