Rossini

Post by JoesCup »

So, does anyone here have actual experience with the Rossini? I can't have a direct tap or water jug in my barracks room for the espresso machine :) How well does the Rossini handle steaming? It seems like a good stepping stone for until I move out and can get the vivaldi or whatever is hot then :)

The only person on this forum with a Rossini was on this thread:

wforum/viewtopic.php?t=205&highlight=rossini

He's only made two posts so good luck contacting him.

You do have one more option, get a very small cart (just big enough for the S1) and use a bottle with a Flo-Jet for the plumbing. After you move out of the barracks, you have a nice machine that you can plumb into the home - No need to sell off the Rossini or whatever else you might get and lose money on.

read it

I've read the threads on TMC/CG/HB/Here. The boiler size (450ml) is bigger than the Gaggia (103ml) and Silvia (354ml). But it doesn't match the Alexia/Zaffiro (750ml) or brewtus (1700 ml). So it should be able to handle steaming enough milk for a cappuccino/short latte/mocha/hot chocolate. I'm just trying to figure out how warranted chris' "it isn't good at steaming is" given that most of chris's machines would blow the milk out of my 14 oz steaming pitcher.

For that price range you'd be best off with an Oscar. You'd not only blow the milk out of your pitcher, you'll blow the Gaggia, Silvia and Alexia/Zaffiro into another galaxy. None of these can steam in the same room with an Oscar. The Oscar has the same boiler size as the Vivialdi steam boiler, 2.5 liters of fury packed into a black plastic case, do not be fooled by its looks; the Oscar has really nice parts in it.
If I were a betting man I wouldn't even put my money on any of those other horses against an Oscar...

I got it

I got the Rossini. It has plenty of steaming power... I have a 14 oz pitcher..it would be better with a 20 oz pitcher. I went for the rossini for the temp controls and not wanting to mess with an HX. So far so good :)

That's really nice to hear!
Can you post some pics of your setup? Just curious how it looks in in real world use rather than some stale pics on the LaSpaz website.

sure

I'll try to pop some pictures later tonight :) Maybe even a video of how silly the steam is compared to a gaggia :-p

Nice.
Looking forward to seeing them.
So you have a Gaggia to compare with?

I did

I had a gaggia. I think I need to order the adaptor and new tip from Chris, since this thing is blasting the milk out of my little 14 oz pitcher. Temperature adjustability and stability is night and day. Literally within three shots I had drinkable straight shot espresso. And within another five or so I had the temperature dialed in nicely. Lots of my friends are keen on mochas, so I have been blasting chocolate chips with steam to melt them, then frothing milk with the molten chocolate. But the milk is getting hot too fast to stretch it long enough for microfoam. So either it's a new tip or a bigger pitcher :-p

Get a new tip, I steam with 12oz pitcher with no problems.
If you want the best pitcher in the universe, try an Alessi 17oz, this thing is a weapon to behold.

Tip

I've got some Kidd O's that I am running in the machine right now, and getting some very tasty, gloppy shots out of it that are making good cappas and mochas for the roommates.
