fuse blew and now steam boiler not working

Post by esgarbanzo »

Hello, I had an unfortunate coffee making session yesterday.

Full disclosure - I was cleaning under the machine after making two lattes and it fell from atop its own power cord (1/2" or so). The impact seems to have jarred it enough that the fuse and fuse holder melted. Based on feedback here and elsewhere I replaced the fuse holder with an inline automotive fuse and got everything repowered.

However, now the steam boiler will not heat and I get the 110, 120, water symbol error. Resistance check on the temp probe and boiler element seem good. I bypassed the safety switch and that didn’t change anything.

What am I missing? For additional context, I’ve had intermittent GFCI tripping that is unresolved for months. Also have occasional over pressure in the steam boiler. Not clear that these issues caused the problem. My steam boiler is only 2 years old. After a prolonged mystery problem that was similar to this I replaced the very expensive part. Really hoping its not broken again.

Thanks for any insights!

Cheers

Trying disconnecting the steam boiler and see if the intermittent GFI tripping stops. If not, try the same thing on the group boiler. You have probably either got a failing heater element in one boiler or the other.
