shot volume or weight

Post by michael »

when you adjust your single and double cup buttons and measure your shots, do you include the crema in the volume or not?

do any people use the weight of the liquid to measure and or adjust their one and two cup buttons?

I believe you are supposed to measure by weight to achieve 2 oz. in 25 seconds.

You also need to use the espresso when adjuting the dosage. I use old or botched batches of espresso for adjusting the dosing.

Adjusting by weight is an intriguing idea. Hadn't thought about it, but it does make sense.

I might have to give that a try.

if you like details, there is a great discussion of this concept on home barista regarding weight and volume, breaking down for each tyoe of coffee, single, double, ristretto etc, a weight of coffee and a weight of liquid

at the start, there is a chart which gives you a weight and volume of coffee and liquid for the different drinks

i printed it out, good reference tool for trying a few new things 8)
