how do I remove the in tank softener

I've decided it will be cheaper to buy soft water at the store than to replace the in-tank softener cartridges. What do I have to do to remove the in-tank softener? Is there some special connection?

Just pull the cartridge out. Or if you want, remove the whole thing by pulling the hose off the metal water inlet.
