Pump throbs rather than being a steady buzzzzz

I just set up my V2. The shots are already pretty good & I haven't practiced much, that's a good thing. The pump doesn't sound like the rotary pumps I've heard before. It kind of pulsates. at first I thought that possibly my grind was too fine or my tamp too tight, but it sounds like that even while flushing the poratfilter. Is this sound normal?

It depends what kind of counter top you have the machine on.
It's not going to be as smooth on let's say, formica vs. tile or a slab of granite.

The countertop I have the machine on is 2" thick maple butcher block.
I had an Alex machine setup in the same spot & what I got was a solid buzz sound of the pump. The S1's pump sounds like an pulsing throb.

Have you double-checked to make sure your water supply is adequate? I got cavitation noise when I first set up my machine. You can see the details of my stupidity at http://www.rimpo.org/wforum/viewtopic.php?t=213
