Brew head valve issue?

After 14 years of daily and relatively problem-free use of my machine, I have a growing problem. Sometimes when I press either the one or two cup brew button, I hear the click and electronic hum of a solenoid, but the pump does not run. So I hit the brew button again to stop it. Then, after a second or two, I try again and it (almost always) works properly activating the solenoid and pump. Lately, I've had to try two or three times to get it going.
Years ago I removed and cleaned the hot water dispenser valve as it was frozen with mineral deposits. I'm thinking this might be a similar problem in the brew valve, but I'd appreciate thoughts from the crowd before I start opening up the machine again.
