Two cup button intermittent

Couple months ago the Viv II[ two cup buttom began misbehaving. Had to begin pushing it extra hard to get it to operate. I only do doubles normally. My routine is to push the two cup button with right finger while simultaneously pushing timer with left.
Sometimes have to start over when two cup button don't engage.
What is frustrating is sometimes don't realize two cup button didn't operate and I'm already steaming.

Called Chris's Coffee and talked to Tech. He said to take faceplate off, get underneath and there is a rubber strip that these buttons push into. Said I may have to reverse this rubber strip so button will engage a new surface.

This was two weeks ago when machine was still under warranty. I now am ready to begin the process. Hope they will honor this prob under warranty if the strip is too messed up.
Anyone ever remove a faceplate?

Thanks,
gene

If you get "stuck" remember that the one cup and two cup buttons are identical except for the symbol on them. You can always use the one cup button for your doubles and the two cup as backup.

I am very aware both buttons are identical. Question is has anyone out there had they same problem and resolved it.

The reason I want to fix it is because I have the single cup button set on fifteen seconds so I can walk away as the machine self flushes into 10 oz cup after use-I like to push button and be sipping and not worry that cup overflows.
Thanks

I have had my S1 VII since 2007. My 2 cup button started to be intermittent and finally got bad enough I had to fix it. I removed button assembly and then removed the circuit control board from the button housing. I found gunk/grease not sure what it was on the back of the rubber buttons and on the circuit board. I used alcohol Q-tips and a clean cloth until the back of the rubber buttons and the surface of the circuit board was clean. Most of the Gunk was on the 2 cup button. Put it back together and it works like new.
