S1 Preservation Steps

The recent post about a metallic taste after leaving the machine unused for 2 months made me think it would be good to have "checklist" for preserving your machine if you plan on being away for a long time (like me). And also what to do to de-preserve it once your back. I don't think there is anything in the owners manual? (Correct me if I'm wrong).
Some of the tricks like "secret buttons and tilting method for emptying the brew boiler" come to mind (also used for transport).
Feel free to write one up here if you are particularly knowledgeable in this area. I'll try to put something togther later when I get a chance.
