I've read (on the net) that if your pulls are running too long that you should increase the fineness of the grind but keep your tamp pressure the same.
I was reading in a book that to compensate for too fine/too coarse of a grind that you should adjust your tamp.
My pulls have been running too long. So, I adjusted the grinder one notch to make a more coarse grind (tamp pressure remained the same). The time of the pull decreased but it was still too long.
I made another grind adjustment with the same results.
I made a 3rd adjustment and the pull was significantly shorter than 25 seconds, was weak, and channeled a bunch.
So, what's a guy to do about this.
Is it simply a grinder issue?
Grind. Help me to clear this up
Re: Grind. Help me to clear this up
Quite possibly. You should be able to dial the grinder in to give you the shot time you want. Theres a Macap on the CG Swap Meet for Rocky money but no idea if its a good deal or not.zoey wrote: I made another grind adjustment with the same results.

I concur.
The grinder is definitely the weak link in the chain in your situation. If you acquire a MACAP for Rocky money - by all means go for it!
Even though used, a decent grinder like a MACAP or Mazzer with a good cleaning and a set of new burrs for next to nothing will give you years of excellent service as long as the motor is in good shape.
