Cost of Electricity to Operate the S1

Post by chas »

It's been asked - and I've often wondered - just how much electricity it takes to operate the S1 24x7. I finally took some measurements today.

Here's what I came up with:
  • Daily $0.30
Monthly $9.00 aka <2.5 Starbucks Grande Lattes
    Annually $108.00
I created a spreadsheet model that is posted at http://www.rimpo.org/s1/S1Power.html where I explain my methods and assumptions. Feel free to plug in your own electrical rate and duty cycle assumptions to come up with results more fine tuned to your situation.

Good work. Now I just need to find enough money for this wonderful machine.

What is your guess for a machine left on 24/7, but only the group head. No steam boiler on at all. Iced lattes'

your idle? in stby or machine on?

Then it probably drops to 12 cents a day. Idle means machine up to temperature but boilers not on.

I guess I still do not understand "S1 up to temp and no lamps blinking" and "boilers not on". HOw is that possible. I know you can turn the steam boiler OFF, but the group boiler??
