vs Reneka Techno vs ...

Just wondering where others' decision-making took them.

Did we all agonize over the BrewtusII-Techno-S1-GS3 trade-offs? I'd been eyeing the Techno for years. It seemd to have it all. But with its high price and no local backing (WLL now carries it), I couldn't get myself to jump. The Brewtus? Very intriguing, but I'm done with vibe pumps and having had an Isomac for 4+ years, found myself wanting something more different. I really had my heart set on the GS3 (as I'm sure some others here did). But once word came out that it'd be priced at $8K in stead of $4500, I considered it absurd. Especially since the S1 offers 95% of what the LM offers at 1/4th the cost (law of diminishing returns). So, features and cost were matched in importance only by the legendary support of Chris Coffee as the seller. This made my deciaion for me. Had he carried the Reneka in stead of the S1, that's what would be sitting on my counter. As such, I'm a VERY happy S1 VII owner with the solid support of CC up in Albany.

I was a bit surprised (read: bummed) that Chris charged me full $ for everything, with no freebies or return customer discount. Not that there's anything wrong with that - he charges fair prices. But in the past he's made the purchase more enjoyable with some sweeteners. This time I paid the new higher price ($2,095) + all the extras. Oh well.

I was very much hesitating due to the 53mm basket, unnecessarly :)

Who did you deal with at CC? They always offer a $100 discount on a machine/grinder buy & I believe at least a $50 discount on a machine alone.

Steve,
Consider yourself lucky for even getting a great machine at that price.
With the cost of everything skyrocketing and the dollar keeps sinking, Chris can only discount for so long before he starts feeling the squeeze also.
I definitely feel it with everything else I'm buying these days.

Remember when a Mazzer Mini E (Type A or B) used to cost around $500?
Now they're almost $800!

I spoke with Chris and Mary and Dallas in assembling my order. I agree that such discounting has been pretty standard. I've even heard of return customer loyalty discounts -- I've been buying from CC for years, even made the road trip up to Albany to get my Tea services and met everyone. Don't get me wrong. As I said, even at retail CC is fair. But nobody likes being charged more than the other guy.

I see what you mean.
But times are changing, the discounts aren't what they used to be. I bought my original S1 at a really nice discount, those were the good 'ol days.
My VII discount wasn't as good as the old S1...
