Is my pump dead?

Post by MDL »

Background:
Vivaldi II purchased and installed April 2007.

Sunday March 28, 2010 the pump started to sound strained and hesitant.

Monday March 29
I removed the pump to check for leaks and damage as described by others.
No leak, no damage; perfectly dry and clean.
The motor rotates freely but the pump is hard to turn.
Re-assembled.

Tuesday March 30
pump is clearly straining and does not sound correct.

How freely should the pump shaft rotate?
I suspect that my pump bearing/seal is failing and that I probably need to replace the pump?

Thanks in advance for you advice and input,
Mark

Sounds like you've found the problem but I'd try an overnight soak in either white vinegar or hot citric acid solution before I gave up on it. Submerge the pump & turn it over by hand to force out any air bubbles. If it's still just as bad in the morning order a replacement.
