How can I use the mini in semi-automatic mode? I've been just switching to the programming mode and pulling shots with that is that the best or only way to do it? Does doing this damage anything, or should I not worry?

Just program one, or both of the shot buttons to run long so that you can terminate manually when you wish; I believe that is the definition of semi-automatic?
