Multiple Shipping Issues

Yes I live in SoCal. Here were my issues:

1. Drip tray jammed very badly. Had to remove front panel to reseat.
2. Side panels both loose, had to jam those back together.
3. Drip tray scratched in one area (Chris replaced it).
4. Gauge out of whack (still not totally happy with the fit).

I'm ordering a VII from Chris soon.
I already have an S1 and an Anita Quick Mill from him as well, based on my delivery experience I'm going to speak with them about other options (of course I'll pay extra) but I think it's worth exploring. The Anita Quick Mill travels very well coast to coast, the Spaz on the other hand is not the good traveller. It's not the packaging, it's the shipping companies...they are absolute brutes with heavier things.

I understand your concern.

For the life of me, I cannot understand how the drip tray gets in the position it does (and many people have had this issue). Even with rough shipping.

In my case, I believe the scratched drip tray was that way before shipping.

The gauge I think is just a victim of it's own design. In order for the front panel to be "quick-release", the gauge sort of has to free-float behind, and that design is just subject to even the slightest force.

In retrospect, I would not pay substantially more for different shipping. I feel it still arrived in acceptable condition, and Chris (and this site) helped me get everything else dialed in so it looks like new now.

Trust me it's the shipping, I used to work for a company that wears brown.
Also, the drip tray is no big deal to me, my back panel has a big ding on it - another thing that I don't care about.
The gauge is another story...
that cursed thing moves if you burp in the next room.
I just did my steam sensor repair the other night and when I was finished, nothing lined up together! The gauge was WAY WAY OFF, looked as thought I dropped and bent the front cover. The boiler shifted when I torqued the old copper sleeve off, it barely shifted but it was enough to throw the gauge off center.
No problems now, everything lines up beautifully and Cafe Niko is back in business.
