according to chris coffee, loose fuse holder which caused arcing around the fuse which burnt out the fuse (and the holder?); seems strange to have that smoke and smell from the fuse: guess i should have checked, because it sounds like something i could have easily fixed, but it might have been a few...

whenever i try the espro pitcher (which i purchased when it was first offered as a hope to do better latte art), my milk comes out way too foamy and thick and i cant get it below the surface; i do much better with my regular pitcher

does anyone have tips on the espro pitcher 8)

purchased the machine in september; never checked what the prior setting was but i think the repair person at chris coffee said it is now set to -2; is there a simple was to see what the setting is 8)

after the thread about some machines not having the correct temp offset, i thought it would make sense to have chris coffee check the temp offset on my machine while it was visiting for a warranty repair; on checking, the repair people said the temp offset was incorrect, but now has been set correct...

to me,it was the smell of burnt electrical components; from the top view, nothing appeared fried, melted etc; i plan on having a look tonight, but at present it seems the quickest fix could be to overnight the machine to chris coffee :-(

get good results with the naked, generally use either the flat or convex espro or a thor tamper with the slight convex and have the thinner disc

from time to time i get some very small channeling holes where the puck meets the edge of the basket. they generally appear opposite the handle on the portafilter, but also appear elsewhere. their appearance does not seem to be related to whether or not i turn on the preinfusion. i assume this is so...

at the coffee shop, the coffee that comes out of the robur and major doserless models is much less clumped that the coffee from my mini mazzer e doserless; what can be done to the mini e to get the fluffy grounds i see at the coffee shop 8)

what can you do to get less clumping on the mini mazzer e aside from using some sort of yogurt cup thing; why is there no clumping and only super fluffy grounds on the robur and major e grinders i see at some of the better coffee shops 8)

in some of my shots, i notice that the crema fades a bit too quickly; this only happens in the cappa cups ( 5 or 6 oz) and not the smaller espresso cups; the fading generally starts as a cresent at the side of the cup; any similar experiences or thoughts on what causes this to happen 8)

at the two better coffee shops i go to in ny, they have synesso machines and always dose triples, 21 - 23 gs depending on the coffee; it makes for quite the strong latte in the 6 oz cup; at the other shop they use black cat with the sleek 10 oz iitala mugs which is really good 8)

dont you have the slight convex with your thor tampers; for me, with the convex, i get less of a dent in the puck when i try to get 17gs in with black cat or organic black cat

plus the slight depression in the center after a tamp looks much better than the flat 8)

thanks. i have tried 93 and 94 in the past with no success. 93, in retrospect, was sour to my taste. i went with 95 based on the temperature they are using in one of my favorite ny coffee shops. if you havent done so, check out the black cat at 95 degrees 8)

for me 15gs doesnt fill up the portafilter with the coffees i have been using from ecco caffe; im using closer to 16.5gs with them, getting good shots, around 30 - 35 seconds. when you say ristretto, does that mean generally the weight of the shot equal to the weight of the coffee i.e. s maller shot...

when you get fresh roasted beans and need to let them "wait" a few (5 or so) days, do you just let the beans sit in the bag? opened or unopened? if you plan on freezing the beans for longer term storage, do you do this before you freeze the beans 8)

i enjoy the milk drinks and generally start in the morning with the 6 oz cup for my first. if its a weekend and im around, i move to the 5 oz for my second. i like those cups and bought one set of 6 ozs, a set of 5ozs and a set of espresso cups (2oz i think) 8)

try ecco caffe; i had great success with the daterra reserve and the screen dried yellow burbon

you can mix them together and end up with the beans used in cafe grumpy in new york; really good stuff 8)

when you adjust your single and double cup buttons and measure your shots, do you include the crema in the volume or not?

do any people use the weight of the liquid to measure and or adjust their one and two cup buttons?

when do you measure the pressure; machine on or off; right now my gauge reads 25 psi which i set as the boiler was filling, but i havent experimented much with it yet

how many seconds of pi are you using; does it vary from bean to bean 8)

i always thought that when i have the soupy - wet - puck its because i have ground a bit too fine, but often the soupy finish gives me a great shot at 25 to 30 seconds. i dont think it matters 8)

my last black cat had the disappearing crema problem (a quick fade) and shots that seemed much too fast based on the grind i was using. is this the problem others have had 8)

i had a great shot of aficionado earlier today, 15gs (my usual) at 94. the toscano is great, but this last one was clearly comparable. i always use 94 degrees for their blends. what are other people using; is their any roaster recommendation 8)

i like the monkey blend, but i have only used it with the VII; did not like the liquid amber which blonded on me pretty early and was a bit thin; currently have another blend, something sucro, but have not tried it yet 8)
