Re: S1V1 steam/hot water problem
All R&R'd. It was the level sensor, but since we had things apart, we also descaled everything, replaced steam boiler gasket, all water lines, anti-crush and ferrules, vacuum breaker, expansion valve seat (and calibrated the expansion valve, then set the boiler back to proper operating pressure....

Re: S1V1 steam/hot water problem
Well, does look like it was the level sensor lifting up, but we are going ahead with descaling and some parts repair - the water lines, in particular the steam wand line, looked like replacement was a good idea. The boiler itself is surprisingly not bad, as is the heating element. There is some scal...

Re: S1V1 steam/hot water problem
Given how many years you ran hard water through it you should probably descale the boiler. Though at this point that would probably require a complete boiler removal, disassembly, and sand blast. Even a long soak in citric acid solution would probably not do enough. I do not disagree :-) We'll see ...

S1V1 steam/hot water problem
The background: Circa 2004 S1V1 (and original owner). Has needed minimal maintenance (just a group gasket). Somewhat hard water for the most recent 13 years, then a year of storage, now 6 months of fairly soft water. We only run it for lattes in the morning. The past 2 days I've been getting more wa...

Re: Vivaldi Pheonix
Ha, I do still have them. It's taken me a very long time to find them but I did tonight. I haven't been on here in years! Years! Which isn't to say it's not valuable but rather that my restoration went so well that I'm now going on 8 years of daily espresso with absolutely no trouble. That's pretty...

Re: S1V1 Motor
First remove power from the machine. Then take the inlet and outlet fittings off of the pump. Then remove the pump/motor from the machine by unscrewing the four small nuts located on the bottom of the machine. You can lay the machine on its side for this. gschroeder81, Is there any chance you still...

Re: Vivaldi Pheonix
Gregor, Me and many S1 V1 owners will be glad with you :) Bumping this thread in hopes Gregor still has his photos. Our 2004-build S1V1 is headed for some TLC. It has been absolutely flawless but it's definitely time for an overhaul. I've been busy reading through all the maintenance/restoration th...

Code Brown
I got some time yesterday to play with temperatures a little, as I was using up some old Code Brown to test the Espro tamper and re-dial-in my grinder for that blend. Now granted this was old coffee (12/6 grind) so I wasn't expecting much in the way of taste from the shots. One thing that was clear ...

Installed! Initial impressions/results (long)
A minor shipping issue - the boiler gauge wasn't centered in the opening - it had slipped down. We had to take the front panel off and re-align the gauge. Also, my Estro tamper was nowhere to be found, so I sent a note off to Chris. Steve (husband) almost regrets saying he could plumb a machine in ;...

Chas, Well I am forever grateful that you took that step and got the S1. Between this site, Bob's posts here and on CoffeeGeek, and Dan Kehn's review and Buyer's Guide article, I knew the S1 was the right machine for us and the only place to consider purchasing it was Chris' Coffee. As the newbie, I...

I asked Chris about this when I ordered my S1 last week. He said the change back to 20 Amp was as simple as flipping the 15/20A switch and replacing the plug on the end of the cord. Since the units all start as 20A models (his techs do the swap to 15A), all components are properly rated, including t...
