round gauge to square double gauge
round gauge to square double gauge
Hi,
I've just got kit to change the gauge from v1 type to v2.
I've removed the round gauge but the pipe there need to go back alittle so the bigget double gauge will fit.
Can anyone take picture of he's gauge inlets please ?
So I will be able to fit the same ?
Also, I got part 02497. not sure what it is for.
Thanks!

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
I tested installed that kit several years ago (unsuccessfully) and that steam pipe was a hassle. You have to put a bit of an "S" bend in it so that it aligns properly with the new gauge. Given that the pipe is fairly thick with little space to work in, it is a real PITA. I suspect a trained plumber could probably do it in about 15 seconds!
I was hoping you could tell me what that 02497 us for. I don't recognize it. Plus it is too small in the photo to tell. Is it just a metal sleeve or is it threaded?
I suspect installation of the new front panel will be no fun as well. You will need to unscrew and pull out the plastic control box so that you can unscrew the lid to get to the cable sockets for the front panel.

God dammit!
For the front panel, I decided to keep to current one just change the sticker.
As you said, to much hassle and its the same.
But, I've gently tried to move the steam pipe to fit in it new place. but i pushed to hard and now it leaks!
time for technician, grrrrrr.
but the odd thing, even now i'm trying to get it in place, when I screw the manometer in the chassis and put the panel back there is a 1cm gap !
What am I doing wrong ?

Is that what 2497 is for?

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
I've just tested, and its the spacer needed for the gauge to fit in the panel.
However the screw that was provided is not long enough. So this "gap" on the chassis with long enough screw fit the gauge exactly at place. (maybe this chassis is for Dream too so its little different ?)
My steam gauge pipe is now broken, I've tried to bend it to "S" but it didn't work as I expected :(

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
Ok.
Silver solder fix the pipe, seems to hold fine.
So, square manometer in place, steam boiler show 1.25 like the old one.
Tried to connect the brew pressure, but T3 is 3/8 while what I got is 1/4!
from the pics online I can see that there is adapter there, I guess its 3/8-1/4 one. La Spaz didn't send me this one.
Time to check the local stores.
Still looking for someone to check he's machine, where the long pipe for brew manometer goes.

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
They did "screw" you out of a vital component. You can see the adapter they should have included circled in the photo below. It was included in the kit I received a few years back. However, I did not receive that spacer sleeve you got. I think I put a couple of nuts on the back side of the gauge as spacers. I am not sure about your guess that it is a 3/8" -1/4" adapter since it is probably a metric part.
The photo above also shows that the coffee pressure gauge's copper tubing is bent backward and then goes straight up behind the three way valve's copper drain pipe. Then in the photo below you can see where they put the excess coil. The other end then angles down directly behind the new gauge with a gentle 90 degree bend into the attachment port on the back of the gauge.

Hi Chas,
Again, Life saver with your replies.
Funny that after so many years the Vivaldi is out there and first thread about this transition.
So, Thanks for the second picture, I've went tru so many pics in google and missed this one.
As for the adapter, I'm sure its 3/8" to 1/4", I've measured with caliber.
Actually I found this part but in Silver part and not copper. Can I use it or a copper is a must ?
Thanks!

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
Is it actually chromed steel rather than silver? The only thing to watch for over time is whether there is any leakage since the expansions coefficient of that part will be a little different vs copper.

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
Well, I couldn't wait and tried that.
Everything leaked on me :(
I don't this I should use teflon, its gonna be 8-9 bar there.
I'll go look for copper part tomorrow, otherwise I'll ask La Spaz to send me that too.
Grrrrr, 90% is done...

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
Definitely get the right one - at no charge - from LaSpaz. I still think it's more likely that it's a metric part. Maybe 10mm-6mm converter which is close but not quite 3/8" - 1/4". Until then use as much teflon tape as it takes.

Chura, glad you are finishing your progress. One question for you. Do you absolutely need the new panel or can I use the old panel with some cutting and make-up? If I order from Chris Coffee that panel will significantly increase the shipping cost.

Hi,
yes you can do that of course.
but i must tell you, getting the last adapter ain't gonna be easy.

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
I still wait for mine.
Everything I bought on the local stores didn't fit exactly (maybe because we have inch here and Italy is metric, as Chas said)
I'm waiting for this part to arrive from La Spaz.
This picture indeed not in the PDF
it describe the parts used to connect the brew manometer. Strange why its not in the original PDF.

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
So I got this part.
However, I've closed it very hard, still very small leaking.
Might be it needs teflon anyway ?

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
Yes you need teflon. Unfortunately, that's one of the few things you can't fix with duct tape!

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
I didn't see any part with teflon. but i'll give it a try.
be sure, it ain't gonna be easy, so inaccessible spot there :)

Re: round gauge to square double gauge
Wans't easy! but I think I made it.
It leaked on me, and its so hard to reach! got 4 round of teflon, and still when brewing a single micro drop. but I can't let it stay.
So again take everything off, remove teflon, apply 6 round, close everything and now it look OK.
This place is soooo inaccessible, my fingers bleed, but job done :)
I was happy to see one original threads with teflon tape poking out, I taught all the machine is teflon free.
I'll add some pics soon,
