Help.. need to adjust pressure valve on S1

Postby TomP10 » Wed May 09, 2012 9:28 am

I recently descaled my S1. I disconnected the water source and put the hose in bucket full of solution. Have finished and reassembled, but somehow the pressure valve got messed up in the process. It only goes up to 3 bars before releasing the pressure via the 3-way valve. I don't know why this happened but am a bit frustrated.

I think I need to adjust the pressure valve for the group head. I see the pictures on the website but am a bit nervous about tinkering. Can anyone provide more details on what I need to do?

(I have a portafilter with a pressure gauge so I can directly measure the pressure at the head.)

Thanks, - Tom

Adjusting the pump pressure is really easy. It just looks more than it is.
All you need to do is remove the drip tray and remove the front panel. You now have full access to the pump adjustment.
All you need to do is loosen the nut on the adjustment screw (hold the screw in place, to prevent it from moving to keep your initial position) and adjust the pressure by turning the screw in or out. There is nothing to be intimidated about really.
Remember that with a closed P/F you will measure peak static pressure which will be higher than the shot pressure.

Does it go up to 3 bar quickly and then shut off or it is going ~25 seconds and only getting up to 3 bars before shut-off? If it's the former, then the problem is more likely that you inadvertently reprogrammed the volumetric dosing to a very small value.

I'd reset the volumetric dosing to see if that fixes things before you tweak the pressure adjustment.

Slo & Chas --- thanks for the advice. I will double check the dosage, but I don't think that is the problem. That certainly is the simplest.
